That the opportunity existed for signing
I Inge Jens' memories (not an autobiography as it does not tire to point out) in December 2009 read, and I then for the first time extensive with the history of the family man busy - especially with the written jointly with her husband, the writer and scholar Walter Jens biography Katja Mann ("Mrs. Thomas Mann"). This of course was interested in the Pringsheim and the children of Thomas Mann, Golo, in particular, Klaus and Erika Mann adapted Consequently, yesterday's reading as the end of this reading program with the personal acquaintance of the now 83 year old woman. For time reasons, they chose only three episodes from her book at Rowohlt laid out - childhood in bombing in Hamburg, contacts and travel in the former GDR and lines of pain and grief over the dementia of her husband Walter Jens. That touched us particularly, but my father now suffers from the same disease, so we can understand the words of the writer.

the New Year the New Year 2010 I wish all the blog readers happy, healthy and confident for the next potentially difficult times. My motto for the coming year is from Kurt Schwitters:
"Because art is nothing other than making of any material."
For the first quarter, we (my wife and I) are carried out as the highlight of a visit to the Botticelli exhibition in Frankfurt '; I hope it works as desired. This an old art postcard from my collection, "La Primavera" (Firenze) from Stengel & Co. Dresden from No. 29848th

World Climate Conference and Albert Schweitzer is currently a well mediocre movie about Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Lambaréné and his jungle started in the cinema; appear only three biographies about him. What he has failed so magnificently with the climate conference to do in Copenhagen?
One should remember his ideas: a small book of the Union Verlag Berlin 1974 (7th edition) is before me: Albert Schweitzer, "The teaching of reverence for life". This book was based on a proposal by Gerald Goetting during his visit in August 1961 in Lambaréné.
a lecture at the French Academy of Sciences on 20 October 1952 begins:.
"That which we call after a Greek word borrowed ethics and after the Latin taken morality is, in general, in the right human behavior is not limited to our but also of the other well, like the human society has to deal with us "
From the blurb:
." I am life that wants to live in the midst of life that wants to live "This thesis penetrates to Schweitzer. the idea before, in which world and life affirmation and ethics combine with each other. The term "reverence for life", in thought justified, is the cornerstone on which to rest any culture. Only the ethics of reverence for life is complete because it has to do not only with the behavior of man to his fellow man, but expands the circle of solidarity to all creatures. in this commandment of love attitude is a tremendous responsibility . The people of the world "
was from this responsibility feel probably nothing in Copenhagen, but what one should expect from politicians who are guided by interests of all times if they had this little booklet in the pocket and had from time to time? their action and decision-based instruction from it, it would have happened otherwise.
